Capitol Podcast for July 11, 2008

Springfield, Illinois: With passage of state budget you would think the Illinois General Assembly would have finished its work. Throughout the history of the State, Illinois Governor’s have rarely called the General Assembly into special session. Last year, the Governor called for more special sessions than had been convened in the State’s 190 years. The never ending session of special sessions cost Illinois taxpayers over 1.5 million dollars. In 2008, we are off and running again… two days of special session….$80,000.00 of taxpayer tab. This year, we call it an investment, one of the better returns the State has seen for quite a while. The cost of two days special session resulted in the defeat of 37 billion dollars of pork laden government spending. Not a bad rate of return. For all the Special Session news, listen to this weeks Capitol Pod Cast entitled, “The Battle, The Stalemate, and The Joke”.
